Have you ever worked hard for a career path, only to have life flip everything upside down? Many Christian professionals find themselves facing unexpected detours-job loss, health challenges, closed doors, and seasons that make no sense at the time. But what if those interruptions are actually God’s direction? What if the career you planned isn’t the one God ultimately designed for you?
That’s exactly what happened to me.
I had earned my Master’s degree in Human Resources, mapped out my entire path in corporate HR, and secured a dream role at General Electric. I thought I knew where my career was heading. But God had a completely different plan-one that would lead me out of corporate America, through a season of crisis, and into a business I never even knew existed: executive recruiting.
This is my story of how God used health challenges, financial uncertainty, and a long, faith-stretching waiting season to shift my purpose, redirect my career, and position me to build a six-figure business from home. If you’re standing at a crossroads wondering what God is doing-or if He’s leading you toward a new assignment-my journey will encourage you to trust His timing, His strategy, and His ability to open doors you didn’t even know were there.
If you’re a Christian professional, an aspiring entrepreneur, or someone searching for your God-given calling, this story will show you how God can take what feels like a setback and turn it into your greatest breakthrough.
When Everything Was Going According To Plan
I Thought I Had My Career All Planned Out…
When I graduated with my Master’s in Human Resources Management, I saw the path clearly: HR generalist → HR manager → Director of HR → VP, HR. The ladder made sense. The plan felt safe. I even landed a job at General Electric-a dream for many.
But not long into my journey, I was forced to stop everything.
Two unexpected blood clots-caused by long road trips between McAllen, TX and Houston-put me on short-term, then long-term disability. My income vanished. And for six months, despite my degrees and experience, no one called me back for a job.
I was stuck. Confused. Frustrated. Until God re-routed everything.
The Wake-Up Call Before the Storm
Before the blood clots ever came, something else happened-something I now see as God preparing my heart.
While I was still working in McAllen, commuting back and forth to Houston to see my husband, I had a life-altering moment with the Lord. One night as I was lying in bed, I was awakened by what felt like the audible voice of God. It wasn’t audible to the room, but in my spirit, it thundered with clarity:
“You love money more than My sheep.” I sat up in shock. I argued back in my spirit: “No, God, I don’t!” But the voice came again: “You love money more than My sheep.”
I fell to my face right there in my room and began to weep and repent. I realized that while I claimed to trust God, I had placed more confidence in career plans, salary, and security than in His calling and care for people.
I prayed: Lord, change my heart. Increase my faith. Help me to trust You like my husband does. Help me let go of control and follow You fully. It wasn’t long after that moment that I was diagnosed with two blood clots-one in my leg, one in my lung.
It happened during a weekend when we were supposed to be back on the road to McAllen, but we were delayed because my husband had stepped on a nail and couldn’t drive. That delay saved my life. I woke up that morning struggling to breathe. We went to the hospital, and I was diagnosed. The doctors told me: Had you traveled back to McAllen that day, you might not have survived.
I was hospitalized for two weeks. Laid up. Humbled. On blood thinners. And every day, the Holy Spirit whispered reminders: No amount of savings can save you. No title. No resume. No plan of your own. Only God.
I remember waking up one morning in the hospital and hearing my husband praying in the Spirit on the couch beside me. That sound changed me. When I left that hospital, I was not the same woman.
The Breaking Point During the Wait
But still-I didn’t have a job. I was out of work for six months.
During that time, I was looking constantly. Submitting applications. Praying. Wondering what I had done wrong. I had done everything by the book: earned my degrees, gained real experience in HR, and proven myself. But nothing opened up.
My husband and I were newly married, and everything we had hoped for was suddenly uncertain. I had been making six figures. That income was a huge part of our early plans to build a life together. We didn’t have children yet-it was just us-and we were trying to get ahead.
My husband had just finished his MBA and felt called to full-time ministry. He had left his management role and began serving at our church. At first, he wasn’t paid anything. Eventually, he received a small stipend, but it wasn’t much-just enough to cover rent. The rest was on me.
In theory, I supported him. But in my heart, I wrestled. I didn’t see how our dreams could survive on faith alone.
I started watching him up close now-we were together every day at the church. I watched him lead Bible studies, serve the community, and minister to people. And I started to see something I had missed before: the fruit of his faith. Lives were changing. Young people were being filled with the Holy Ghost. Marriages were forming. Real transformation was happening. And God even blessed him with a marketable skill he learned from a member at the church. He began trading on the side, and it took off.
Then the phone rang.

The Opportunity I Never Would’ve Chosen…
One day, I finally got a callback-but it wasn’t what I expected. The job was 100% commission. No base pay. No salary. Just commission. I almost said no. But something in me had shifted. Something stirred in me to take a chance. I was finally open to whatever God had. That leap led me into a field I didn’t even know existed: executive recruiting. Not HR recruiting. Not resume screening. I’m talking about headhunting-the kind where companies pay you 20%–25% of a new hire’s salary to find them top talent.
I had no idea it could even be a career. But God did.
What Even Is Recruiting?
If you’re reading this thinking, Wait… companies actually pay people thousands to find talent? – yes. They do. Every single day. That’s why I created a free guide just for you.
Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent, in between jobs, or just tired of the 9–5 grind, this guide will show you what recruiting really looks like, how the pay works, and how you can get started from home.
God Made It Clear: You Can Do This on Your Own
Fast forward. I spent months learning the recruiting ropes. I began building real relationships with hiring managers. I saw six-figure offers close. I felt the thrill of matching the right person to the right role. Then something shifted. It was like God whispered, “You can do this on your own.” And I believed Him.
I launched my own recruiting business and I’ve been running it for over 15 years now. I’ve recruited engineers, directors, attorneys, project managers, and more, all from my home office. On my time. With full autonomy. And if you’ve ever wondered how to build something of your own without compromising your walk with God, this guide on How to Start a Business Without Losing your Faith will ground you as you take your next steps.
What This Did for My Life
Launching my own recruiting business didn’t just give me a paycheck-it gave me freedom.
By the time I had my son-about three years into the journey-I already had a strong client base that kept me consistently busy. I was a professional with a thriving practice, and I was free to do ministry alongside it. And that’s the other piece: ministry was always the priority.
As my heart stayed aligned with God’s will, He opened doors I never saw coming. He deepened my humility, sharpened my focus, and reshaped my values. When I truly put God first, He took care of everything else.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11. When I was in my pit, that truth still resonated. God’s plans for me were always good.
Now, 15 years later, my heart is still in awe. And I’m at a point where I want others to know: there is a path for you. Maybe it’s recruiting. Maybe it’s something else. But if you’ve landed here, reading this, feeling something stir in your heart-this might be the Lord speaking to you.
That’s why I created these guides, playbooks, and tools. I want to be a resource. A vessel. A sister in Christ helping others explore what’s possible when we follow Him.
God always has a plan. And it’s good.

Why I Created the Recruiting Side Hustle Playbook
I never meant to become a recruiter. But now that I know this industry inside and out-and I’ve seen real income, real freedom, and real impact-I want to share what I’ve learned.
The Recruiting Side Hustle Playbook breaks it all down:

- The tools I use daily
- How to find clients
- How to build a side hustle with real income potential
- Scripts, workflows, and client templates I still use today
You don’t need a degree in HR. You just need someone to show you how.
A Side Hustle You Never Saw Coming
If I hadn’t lost everything-my health, my income, my direction-I would’ve never discovered this. But God knew. He took what felt like a setback and turned it into a business. One I love. One I teach others to do. One I truly believe can change your life, too.
Sometimes your calling isn’t on the path you planned.
It’s on the one that takes faith to follow.
